An Offering – The World of The Seen and Unseen

Following its seasons for Salihara (Jakarta) and The Esplanade (Singapore), Australian audiences were beguiled by, The Seen and Unseen, a mesmerising convergence of contemporary Indonesian dance and physical story-telling from director Kamila Andini in collaboration with choreographer Ida Ayu Wayan Satyani.

Originally a feature film, Asia TOPA and The Esplanade together commissioned this stage production featuring the extraordinary child performers of Bali’s Komunitas Bumi Bajra to realise the stage adaptation.

This beautiful documentary charts the shift in Andini’s storytelling medium from screen to stage over a twelve month period, as she and Satyani collaborated with Australia theatre makers Adena Jacobs, Eugyeene Teh and Jenny Hector. The collaboration traverses rice paddies and rehearsal studios of Bali, the digital realm of Zoom creative team meetings, and theatre stages in Jakarta, Singapore and Melbourne.

This documentary was commissioned by Asia TOPA, and produced by Fourcolours Films, 17A and Performing Lines.
