Facing the Sea is a well-known Chinese poem written by Haizi, who committed suicide. In online theater piece Facing the Sea 2.0, we take it as the starting point to reflect on suicidal thoughts and the concept of cyber death. We picked Animal Crossing as the base of this piece, not only because it is the hottest video game during the pandemic, but also because the freedom it provides for us to create a play. The creative process has been challenging and amusing at the same time. We work across the sea between China and Australia and the sea between our islands in the game. The LABS gives us free space to explore the new form.
