A mesmerising study into the psychological effects of disaster, Time’s Journey Through a Room is a poetic—and at times devastating—investigation of the internal conflicts that merged in the wake of the 2011 earthquake in Japan. Set amongst a soundscape of post-disaster field recordings, the ghost of a woman, her surviving husband and his new partner are attempting to cope with the devastating effects of the earthquake.

Founded in 1997, chelfistch is led by writer-director Toshiki Okada, widely regarded as one of Japan’s most significant contemporary theatre makers and innovators. Okada’s meticulous, unflinching eye for detail reveals the innumerable tiny fractures buried in the shockwaves of grief, resulting in a poetic portrait of mental anguish.
